Does ATO water need to match salinity in tank ?

No. ATO water should be fresh RO/DI water. The water evaporates from your tank but the salt does not

No just rodi water, water evaporates not the salt. So as water levels drop your sali ity rises, so you had fresh water to dilute again.

No, no, no! Too off water is just that....plain old RO/DI water. Salt doesn't evaporate.....only the water does.

Also to add to this, always check your salinity periodically and before water changes to see how to adjust saltwater as you could lose some salt to drips spills, skimmer, and salt creep.

Adding salt water in auto top off will slowly increase the salinity of your system. Given my guess of normal evaporation rates, your salinity will double in a year. Of course, everything will die long before that.

But hey, it was good to ask. It seems stupid. But it saved you from a disaster.
