I purchase a vectra pump and im considering the purchase of the back up battery. However, i cannot find too much information on it. The battery was obviously designed for the MP's and i feel like the vectra pumps just kind of piggy backed off them. As if its really not intended for these new pumps. So what i would like to know is, do they perform well with these pumps? Is it a reliable source for when the power goes out? I cant find any specs on it when it comes to these new pumps from retailers selling them and i also cannot find anything on forums.

I own one for my mp and I can tell you that one isn't even powerful enough. Its performance deteriorate quickly over the span of one year and now it doesn't even work anymore. I doubt it will be useful for the pumps. Just my 2 cents. Better investment to get a portable generator.

Your insight just saved me $165 bucks.

Anyone else have the same problem?

By the way, how much do these portable generators cost? I dont know much about electric so is it possible to keep the generator outside and run a single extwntion cord from my apex power bar to the generator? Im just wondering how much power can actually go theough a extension cord? I know wire gauge and how long the cord is makes a difference. I currently have my tank on a 20 amp breaker and i know im using most of it.

I've used Honda EU2000i inverter generator to power the pumps & power heads of four fish tanks. It requires 2 gallons of gasoline to run those items for 10+ hours. It was easy to use, and frankly all other portable generators are about the same. You simply run cords to connect the generator and your devices. In order to get the right wattage of generator, cord, and extension, you should first get a little plug in device from Hardware store to understand how much power is required to start up each device. Once you get all those numbers added up, you then can pick the right equipment. The Honda generator is $1000 and I rented it from HomeDepot. If you search Amazon under the key word of portable generator, you will find other ones that are much more affordable.

Thanks buddy! Before I read your reply I was already thinking Honda. I already have a Honda lawn mower and snow blower. I have used Honda equipment since I was a little kid and to this day, I have only ever had to pull once to start any of them. For some reason as a kid that always stuck with me and as an adult that's why I bought them. Honda makes rock solid stuff in my opinion and experience but you pay for it. I think it's over priced but it is what it is. So I think I will go with a Honda if I decide against a whole house generator. Might as well do it right the first time. And that way I can power everything in the house instead of looking like an ******* only powering the fish tank. Sorry kids, don't open the fridge!

There was a thread a while back with a deep cell battery power supply for 180 bucks on Amazon. I thought I saved the link but can't find it. He said it had over 10 times the reserve of the ecotech, sits next to the tank, and recharge when the power comes back on. Following since I just bought two M1s.

It would be nice if you can find that link!

I think there is a module you'll need to put a Vectra pump on backup and I'm pretty sure Ecotech is dragging their feet.

You might be right because the description says "its compatible" but makes no mention of the module. I would be upset if it needs a module. How much more money do i need to spend to make this work. In my opinion the battery backups are not a great way to spend your money because over time they lose their power and eventually need to be replaced.
