Does the chaeto need light to stay healthy or is the lighting for it to grow?

It probably doesn't need a whole lot – most plants and corals don't – but definitely "some"! Even less might work, but I'd throw at least 10,000 lux at it....more is obviously fine too. :)

Do you just run the lighting all day? Or through a schedule of 8 hours a day or similar?

I don't believe there is a golden rule. I have seen many do 24h and some do with a schedule. I personally have it in my display tank and they get the light the display gets. You'd think in nature there is no way they get 24h light so I'm leaning towards 24h being not necessary, but also don't see if it would be harmful.

I think they light 24/7 in the videos so it is always growing and absorbing nutrients etc. I think it helps ph as well when it's on all day... can't remember.
