My LFS has fish that scratch with sub therapeutic copper.

I’ve had fish scratch from flukes in full copper treatment.

where did theory come from that scratching (from flukes) will be suppressed during copper?

Copper - no
Freshwater somewhat and praziquantel AKA PraziPro

Ah. I did dose prazipro about 1-2 weeks ago. I personally haven’t seen scratching but the fish are still in copper.

Was wondering if the flukes were suppressed from the copper or if they were cured.

They are going into observation first (obviously). I just wanted to know what the odds are the flukes are still there.

Will gill scraping in microscope help detect flukes? Because so far I don’t see symptoms.

No.

No to what? No to them being cured or no to the flukes not being there anymore?
Copper has no effect on flukes and won’t kill them
