Does Fauna Marin Min S rase phosphate levels?

I recently got a sample bottle of Min S from my LFS to try it out.

I’m sure it’s a great coral food but I’m dealing with high phosphate problem (I use phos 004 to keep it at desired levels)

So my question is does it directly raise phosphate levels such as reef food does?

All foods will (slightly) increase your phosphate level, but I think this would pale in comparison to Reef Roids (I think any phosphate increase would be negligible). Just start at much less than the recommended dose initially.

Thanks that’s what I wanted to know. Of course all food sources will slightly raise phosphate levels

I use it and I wish it could raise PO4. No luck so far, but that is my experience.
Just a suggestion, start with 1 drop per 100l/ 25gal. The stuff is concentrated. I have 65 gal systems and I only dose 2 drops/day.
If you get green film on glass you used too much, reduce the dose or dose every second day.

LOL these are good news for me, how old is your system? Mine is one year old today and it started off with dry rocks so it could be huge difference in our system maturity

Yesterday I dosed 1/3 of the recommended amount just to see how the corals are reacting to it. Didn't notice much but the fish went for the large pieces

I rarely have to clean the glass since I use an overkill UV so I doubt I’d see a change either way

I’ll keep tracking po4 to see if I notice any trend change

Man that’s what I thought, I guess my system would deal better with po4 when it will really mature. The main reason I maintain po4 at 0.04 is because sps are bleaching in my system when levels are above 0.1. Could be a maturity thing, could be the swings, I’m just having better results that way.

This assumes there are no other swings and only PO4 goes down.
My suspicion is that GFO/ Al binders take other things out of the water and the biofilm/ acros suffer.
Another observation I made, people who run reef tank with low PO4 tend to have lot of fish. So the fish produce the food.

Just recently my PO4 dipped below 0.05 and my acros are suffering. Polyp extensions is down, colour is fading and algae is taking over.

Could be something to do with the rate of po4 to no3 to kh (and all triangle and ph of course). I'm no expert when it comes to sps but from what i know these ratios do matter.

I'm surprised to hear you experience algae outbreaks at low po4 levels. For me it's the exact opposite. When the po4 spikes so as the algae.

Your acros coloration is wonderful btw
 
Colour is a funny thing with corals. When everything seems to work well you get really rich deep colours.

I like this a lot. I believe the light was 14-15k range.

These are under elevated PO4 levels (0.2-0.3).
I lost the Setosa unfortunately, due to my annual mess up.
But the purple one (Blueberry wine) right now is really pale in comparison:

Now it is pastel colour.
I am increasing the PO4 and the deep purple is coming back, but nothing like before the uniform colour.

On the rock behind you can see the algae taking over.

Yes I do, Tomini tang. He/she is real gentleman/lady (not sure about gender). It will not touch anything that looks like a mess. If it is nice and fresh looking algae it wil eat it, biofilm on glass as well. Otherwise it is my job to clean it up.
All of my fish love Fauna Marin pellets.

I can’t blame them for not wanting to eat algae. In real healthy reef you always see lot of fish so the algae never gets so bad like in a tank. I suspect most fish look at our tanks and think what a slum.

With snails I noticed the same, they prefer biofilm on the glass vs. crap looking algae.

Maybe you could cover up the algae with mysis to make it look more delicious. LOL JK I don't really think it will actually work

About that Tomini tang, if I’m not wrong it’s seems like a close relative of a kole tangs, and from my experience they are not much of a algae gazers, the one I had anyway. It only ate my zoas :|
