Hey guys,

Anyone know if Flucanazole also treat ich? I'll be dosing it to my tank for a GHA outbreak and noticed my tang has a case of ich. It would be nice to kill 2 birds with one stone. Thanks!

Fluconozole is used as a medicine to treat fungal infections in humans but also acts as a cell wall inhibitor in some plants which is why it's effective at killing bryopsis. It doesn't actually kill the bryopsis per say, just makes it to where it can't regenerate its cell walls quickly enough so it gradually deteriorates over time leading to tissue breakdown.

I doubt it would do anything to ich since it is a protozoan parasite. It would be nice if it did something though!

I know it killed almost all of my acropora overnight when I dosed have the recommended dose for Bryopsis. Don't use it.

I am just little curious and definitely not saying it didn't have an adverse reaction in your tank, but it is just little odd. Were your Acros healthy before dosing? Your params stable? I have dosed Fluco couple of times with no ill effect to my Acros, and I know other people that have dosed fluco to treat bryopsis with no ill effect.

Completely healthy and no parameter swings. Wondering if I got a bad batch of Fluco. I ordered it from paylesspetproducts.com. I believe there's been reports of their supply coming from Asia, which could be questionable. This was mainly an SPS tank. My fish are fine, all montis, porites, psammacora, pavona, lepto, cyphastrea and some acros (mainly Tenius) all pulled through. Basically most of my acro colonies and frags RTN'd within 2 days or less. The fluco was the only change to the tank.

I am so sorry. Did you dose 1 capsule per 10g of water? I actually overdosed by accident (apparently I can't count 1-10:(). But everything seem fine. I will say though, I think fluco has an adverse effect on your pods population. That's totally anecdotal sinceI had dino as well, which are toxin and could kill pods. I ordered from paylesspetproducts.com as well.

And to op's point, I don't believe Fluco will help with Ich.

Thanks- I dosed half the recommended dose. Its a 175gal and I dosed only 8 capsules to take things slow. But things went downhill real quick. BTW the bryopsis is still there. Most likely cause I didn't dose more. I pulled every coral out and let the tank go a week before doing a 40% water change and started running carbon and the skimmer again. No corals have been added back yet.

I had zero ill effects from dosing fluconazole in my 20 gallon reef. I expected some nutrient swings and got some around the 10 day mark, I just did a water change and replaced the same amount of fluco/gallon that I took out. Zero issues after that and the bryopsis is all gone. None of my SPS reacted to it but I didn't have any acropora at the time, just a couple of montiporas, birdsnests, and a stylophora.

For what its worth. I went over the recommended dose (almost double) to treat my tank. it did not hurt anything other than the bryopsis and hair algae. no acros, birds nest, digis, pocilapora, ect were remotely affected.
