does GFO makes skimmer go crazy

Hi,
My skimmer is suddenly producing so much bubbles and overflowing about 12-16 hours after adding GFO (in a media bag, then put the media bag inside the filter sock). Never used GFO before, is this normal. thanks very much.

I have never experienced this issue when adding GFO.

Did you rinse the GFO at all before putting it in your system?

This^. It's possible that the "fines" (dust) may have caused this.

yes, I rinse it under filtered running water until no more dust particles goes out of the media bag. thanks

Then if the bag was new or the filter sock was a cleaned, dry sock, this would also cause this to happen.

thanks for the info. yes the media bag is new, rinse only before puttimg the GFO inside. the filter sock is a 7 inch 100 micron, not new but clean and dry.

A new filter bag makes my skimmer go nuts- rinse really well. Gfo shouldn’t affect your skimmer. Did you dose anything else?

No, not dosing anything else. I have used the filter sock before but it's newly cleaned and dry. The media bag is brand new, but rinsed really well together with the GFO. Skimmer is back to normal now after my weekly water change. thanks for the reply.
