I have had a white tail in QT for the past couple of weeks. All was looking good until 2 days ago when I noticed this white streak looking thing on the trailing edge of its tail fin. It’s definitely on one side as I can see that it’s raised from certain angles. Doesn’t seem like flukes because it’s much narrower than the sesame seed shape so maybe ich? I thought it’s usually more like a grain shape but at a loss here. Any thoughts?

Possible lymphocystis and would be associated with water quality. Assure your ammonia-nitrate-ph and salinity are in safe range . This is a virus looking like a piece of cauliflower in which many tangs seem to carry.
Maintaining optimum water quality and a healthy diet will control this. Some foods are:
Spirulina brine shrimp
LRS herbivore diet
Mysis shrimp
Small plankton
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

ADD GARLIC AND SELCON VITAMINS TO THE FOOD PERIODICALLY

Roger that, thank you!

“ADD GARLIC AND SELCON VITAMINS TO THE FOOD PERIODICALLY”. Forgive the question, from where? Brand / type? I see that suggestion a lot, but as newb as this sounds, I’m not sure exactly what to use...

That's too large to be ich. Flukes are clear, so are often invisible (except the skin damage they cause). Lymphocystis is more angular, and more often seen on the trailing edge of the fins (the second image looks more like it than the first one does - thus the problem with trying to ID issues from photos! ). If it is Lymphocystis, no treatment is needed.

So what is this? Most likely a damaged fin ray. It could also be a granuloma from an infection, but with it being only one, no treatment is needed - just careful observation. The main thing about random spots on fish is to watch to see if they grow, change location, or increase in number.

You say this fish has been in QT for a couple of weeks - what treatments have you given it so far? If you want, you can outline your plan and I can offer advice.....

Thanks Jay. I haven't done any treatments in QT, just observation and getting it to eat. The only things out of the ordinary were that when I tested the QT water yesterday, the Alk was down to 6.4 and the pH was down to 7.8. My main tank is at 8 dkh and 8.2 pH so I was going to slowly bring up the levels over the next couple of weeks by using display water for water changes. No ammonia according to the Seachem badge, salinity is at 35ppt. Fish didn't eat much the first couple of days but is now eating some pellets, spirulina brine, and some rehydrated whole pieces of seaweed. Seems heathy other than the little white spot which doesn't seem to bother the fish. Any further advice is gratefully accepted, thx.
