Does is make sense?

Well.. yes...sorta-kinda. I've watched this video early in my learning how to set up my tank.

The idea that he is trying to get to (lord help me as I might just sound as convoluted as he was in the video) in a nutshell is this.

With pump off, your DT will drain some water into sump. Make sure your sump water + DT runoff into the sump NEVER exceed your sump's ability to hold water.

Stupid right? But the kicker is that your ATO that adds water to the sump, and/or if you ever ADD water directly to the sump, you should have an indicator drawn as to never EXCEED that level. If you do, AND you shut off you return pump, your DT will drain into your sump and thus overflow the sump.

While I won't care to guess if my explanation was truly any more clear, that was what the youtube video's intent was to show.

You have to do a test.
turn off pump and watch the sump level as it rises. It should hopefully stop running before sump gets full.
If not. Try drilling a hole on top of the pipe to create a siphon break whereas the air will disrupt the flow.
Other option is a safety valve which is open when pump is running but will close when water stops running

This shutdown of pump May require two persons so one can quickly plug it back in if water level is climbing quickly

thanks for reply guys
im gonna move my stuff from 40 gallon to new 75 tomorrow. this is what i was gonna do:
-add sand and live rock to new tank
-fill the tank with water
-fill the sump till i get 8 inches of water level( max is 13)
-add my skimmer to skimmer chamber
-turn on the return pump ( i got jebao 9000. i think half power should be fine for 75 gallon)
-add ATO sensor inside the sump at 8 inches level when i start running tank

is that right way?

sorry i always had AIO tanks. never had sump before. wanna make sure i wont get water on my floor due im living in in condo.
