So I have had Chaeto growing in two Fuges for a few months. It has grown but not alot. Does it matter how fast it grows? I read the preening it is what does the job for the aquarium. Mine isn't big enough to preen.

Mine took a few months before it started to really grow. At first the ball seemed to get darker but not bigger. Now I get lots of light green growth

If your nutrients are were you want them to be, the growth rate don’t really matter.

Chaeto uses nutrients to grow and function. Technically those nutrients remain in the aquarium until the chaeto is pruned, but, once they've been turned into chaeto, they don't have any impact on anything else.
