My lights go on later than when I leave so I can't be there when the fish start coming out. Should I turn the lights on while Im getting ready to leave, and then feed when I leave to have them ramp down, then back up like normal later? Or can I feed them when I get home even though the lights have been on for a while by then. I always just fed my FW tank in the morning and kept the lights un until I went to sleep which was about 15 hours and it worked for that but I dont think it would with coral.

Consistency is crucial throughout the entire hobby. Whatever that ends up being for your tank. Unless you have NPS you really do not need to feed them specifically.

I forgot to add that the amount you feed should be consistent as well. Don't feed more one day than another. If you test between those days you won't get a reliable nitrate reading. Feed the same amount every time you feed, don't mix it up. If you do feed more allow the tank time to chew up the extra load before adding even more yet creating a perpetual rising no3 battle.

Feed, test a few times over a week. Maybe feed a tiny more, retest to see how the system handled it and just scale up.
