Hey @Randy Holmes-Farley and team. Does it even matter the grade of Kalk used to make Kalkwasser? I know the solution precipitates phosphate and heavy metals but I’m wondering what’s left in the solution that could be harmful?

I can get calcium hydroxide in bulk here in Jamaica as we mine it but the purity wouldn’t be even close to hobby grade. They use it for whitewash paint and other industrial stuff.

Just wondering if all that would be left would be Kalkwasser.

I cannot say if an ungraded material is OK. It is possible for it to not be OK, but it may be fine.

On the mining part, they must mine calcium carbonate and heat it to make calcium oxide, then add moisture back to make calcium hydroxide. There wouldn't be natural deposits of calcium hydroxide.

Ok. I get the process. Knowing is half the battle.

Out of curiosity, what could be left in the solution itself?

Since there’s no way of being sure of how contaminated it might be, I’ll import it but it’s so abundant here that I had to ask.
