OK gotta ask as I am really doing a summer clean out and my GF saw all the reef gear boxes and gave me "that look"

so my question is does keeping the boxes increase resale value or desirability?
I always like to keep them but man they sure go take up some space.

so what are your thoughts?

Absolute, IMO. Not sure why, but I'll absolutely pay more for something that comes with the original box and materials. I'll often skip something that is just thrown in a cardboard box.

I agree. In my opinion it does. I have a crap load of boxes for my reef gear in case I ever decided to sell anything. I like to keep the original instructions also. Much to the frustration of my wife lol. But when I am buying used goods I prefer to have the original box.

I would have to agree with @TheEngineer on this... But then I have a closet full of boxes from all my Reef gear..
It does make it easier to ship whatever gear if it ever came to that...

I keep my boxes like they're gold. Not only are they great for resale value, but they help you if you need to ship it in for repair too. They come in the perfect environment.

I have two boxes full of gear boxes in my garage.

As a consumer that saves money where possible without losing quality in an already expensive hobby, I absolutely love these answers. Means I can purchase quality equipment cheaper. I am one who prioritizes functionality over appearances, especially when the appearance part ends up in the closet on the top shelf.

Do I keep the boxes from new equipment purchases? Sometimes when feasible. Do I base my purchases on whether or not the OEM boxes\instructions are present? In the digital age? Heck no.
