Does my acan have aiptasia on it!!?

After I do my acclimation and dip I have a shallow dish I put coral it in and use a jewelers loup or watchmakers visor to look for pests. Or eggs and Aptasia. Wanna get crazy a paint brush and peroxide soloution for algae. Rinse again.

Few beers and I'll frag anything...
I think it's aiptasia... I pulled it out, and put superglue on it. It was on the rock, the acan was attached to. Should I be worried? He's been in my tank for about a week now. Also will the supper glue be enough? Covered him pretty good.
Well yes indeed it was an aiptasia. All you can do is watch for others to pop up. If a frag is removable, I take it out of the tank, pat the area dry (not the coral) and apply a kalk paste to the anemone with a q-tip. The paste has to be thick so it does not run down on to the coral. I let it sit for a couple min, rinse with display water and return.
No not necessarily. Aiptasia are not infectious, they reproduce via lateral fission/basal laceration or sexual reproduction.

I use peppermint shrimp in my tank and I have no aiptasia, but that method does not work for everyone for whatever reason.

I see it now, those pictures show much more than the first, as it is no longer buried. I would watch to see if the superglue was effective. I personally use Aptasia X, but have also used Kalk paste, and both are effective. The biggest issue with aptasia spreading I have found is when you accidently tear them while trying to treat the area...
Especially watch the sand where the frag was, as that would be the easiest place for it to have spread.

What do you mean for algae? For small amounts of algae growing on coral, that is what you would do? Also what If you do spot small aiptasia or eggs, what's your next step?

yes. I go by the salinity and ALK of the folks I buy from as well. for an SPS being Co2 reactor or Mech doser drip I know it has a higher alk so I give a longer acclimation. A LFS non dosed Red sea tank also has slightly higher alk than mine. So no boiler plate acclimation IMO. species to species tank to tank differences. slower generally being better.IMO
Ive gotten into the discipline of only buying coral and dipping when I have old tank water, or do a quick 5 gal when I get corals so I have Tank rinse water on hand.
keep an eye on temp if the water gets cold back into a sump bag or in tank container.
IME IMO a healthy coral is pretty resilient to temp change. It does after all go from a box, airplane, my friends garage or LFS,dip, three rinse, saw, rinse, box o fed ex before it gets to your tank.
acclimate, dip, rinse rinse, examine, rinse.
Kinda makes impulse buys a pain.
Haha sorry not aptasia eggs any eggs spirals dots etc. appies actually spit babies. It's the other good reason to zap them out of the tank if you can.
