hi guys, i just got this fire goby yesterday and i think it developed some white spots on its fins, near its eyes, on its body.

Can someone confirm that it’s ich? probable due to stress?

thanks guys!

i realized that the video might not work so here is the link to the youtube video:

I checked up on him a few hours later and the spots are gone??
What’s happening? Should i still treat him for ich?

Yes, that could be ich. The fish also seems to have some fin damage. Was it like that when you bought it, or are there other fish in the tank with it that could have done this?

The coral substrate is going to make it difficult to treat with copper. Hopefully, it isn't ich, but the life cycle of ich is pretty much like this at first: you see a spot or two and then they drop off. A day or two later, more spots return and the cycle repeats. Eventually, the number of parasites increases to the point where the fish dies if not treated.

yeah the fin already damaged when we got it. There were other fish in the tank in the store, so we just thought it got nibbed, but will heal later on in our QT. It also didnt have any whitespots at the LFS so thats why we bought it.

I was thinking of doing the tank transfer method if its ich. If it’s not ich, what do you think it would be?

I would wait for the spots to return, if they don't then it wasn't ich.

I'm not a big fan of TTM - it works for some people who follow the timing exactly, but it fails in a lot of other cases.

ok i guess i’ll wait it out abit and see if the spots will come back. I wish it could just be sand, but see the spot on its
pectoral fin? it’s flapping around when it swims but it didnt fall off

Hi @Jay Hemdal , so it’s been 2 weeks after treatment and her dorsal fin, second dorsal fin grew back. Her tail is still abit rugged, but i think it’s better than day 1
(here is the video of the first day i got her from LFS: https://youtube.com/shorts/LexaOUmfL68 )

This is how she looks like now:

She’s not showing any signs of ich or velvet. My concern is the tail. It’s not 100% healed. Do i need to treat with antibiotics or is the tail healing anyway, but just slow? If it’s fin rot, it shouldve gotten worse than gotten better right?

I think the fish looks really good overall. The rough tail seems to be some of the fin rays growing back and others not - it doesn't look infected to me. I wonder if the spot(s) you saw were just sand?

im thinking that the spots were sands too, but cant really know for sure. But i did treat it anyway (with malachite green) combined with TTM to be on the safe side. Thanks for the help Jay, i think i’ll transfer her to DT today
