So this is my 4th clam in the tank, 3 maxima and a derasa, and is the largest one. Added this one about 9 days ago and it has been doing fine. The foot was attached to a small piece of rock when I got it from the LFS. I put it on a Brightwell clam hammock, like my other 2 maximas, just to raise it up a bit from the sand. For some reason this one really likes to move itself so the bottom of the mantle is touching the sand, if I move it back on the hammock, within minutes it goes right back to where it was. Yesterday I noticed it was on it's side so picked it back up and since then I have noticed a small part of the mantle that seems to not be coming out anymore. Not sure if it just stressed or pinched mantle. Right now the tank is fallow so there are no fish to bother it. I've seen some hermits hanging out on the shell about halfway down every so often, nothing near the mantle. I don't want to do a fresh water dip and stress it more if I don't have to, but if it is pinched mantle, like to try and get it fixed so it doesn't die.

Thanks, I was pretty sure it was after seeing some other pics. I have no GFO running right now, there is new carbon in there, so might try swapping that out today and if it doesn't start looking better FW dip it is.

Decided just to do a 20 minute fresh water dip. Nothing like having a clam spit water all over you when transferring it from the tank to the bucket. I did burp it just in case when I put it in the FW and then again back into the tank, was only out of water a few seconds each time. Nothing more than when I take them out of the bag and into the tank. Now to wait a few days and see if it looks better.

Did a 20 minute FW dip, within 15 minutes of putting it back in the DT, it started to open the same as the pic I posted earlier. Going to give it a few days and see if anything changes. If not, I will give it another FW dip and see what happens.

So I have changed carbon a few times now and no difference. No difference since the FW dip also. Though the clam did fall over, must have been walking itself, multiple times the first day or so after the FW dip. Thinking it was a bit stressed from me having to keep picking it up. Then it stayed upright for 2 days, until I mentioned to my wife it had been 2 days and within a minute it was back on it's side. Has been fine since. Going to give it another few days and if no changes another FW dip. Still reacts to light changes and me moving towards the tank or waving my hand over it. None of the nassarius snails or crabs trying to eat it, so I will take that as a good sign.

Still seems to be doing fine, but looks just like the original pics still. Hasn't decided to fall over in over a week. All the other clams look good, so don't think it's PM. Maybe still settling in, not sure.
