Does one need a Media Basket?

I recently purchased a JBJ nano intermediate led 28g...I also bought an Eshopps nano skimmer...forgive my lack of knowledge but what exactly is the point of a media basket?...I'm not even sure I could fit the one in along with the skimmer and a heater...i ultimately assumed the skimmer replaces the media basket but really am clueless, thanks!! By the way im very new to this hobby!

A media basket just holds your mechanical filtration, like floss or sponge, it can hold your charcoal or purigen. That tank used to come with it's own type of media basket. You do not need one, it's certainly not a must and I got away without having one on my JBJ 28.

Definitely not a must, but I recommend one. I use one on my 29 biocube and allows me to direct all of my water flow in the back chamber through my purigen and chemipure elite. But if your looking to save a little money you can do without it.
