Just curious for you long time reefers, do you ever clean your plumbing? I can imagine sponges and growing all through the pipes but maybe that isn’t really the case. And if you have a huge in wall tank or something going to the basement, no way that is being removed to clean separately.

I have to clean my pipes to the sumps about every second year.
I normally never clean the pipes from the return pumps.

I've dismantled plumbing before than has ran for 10yrs... the only thing I see is a light brown slime which I assume is good nutrifying bacteria buildup

I would think if I cleaned out all that good bacteria.... it would just have to start over again, so why bother. Its a good thing the slime is there, so I leave it undisturbed

I betcha all that Dr Tims bacteria you buy in a bottle is cultivated from the light brown slime ive seen in my plumbing.

I don't clean mine. I have taken down long running tanks in the past and as mentioned, only found a thin layer of slime.

Yummy
