Im starting up a qt and for future reference, I wanted to know when I quarintine fish, do I need to change out all filter media and water after the full cycle is completed? Of course if the fish presents obvious signs of sickness I would but what if the fish remains healthy for the 72 days? Will I need to recycle the tank everytime I need to quarintine fish?

I usually did a 25 percent weekly change. I use 20 and 40 gal tanks, and due to the size can be less forgiving.

You put the fish in your tank. If anything is still in the water at the end of quarantine, it was on the fish too.

Sorry what I meant was when I finish the full quarintine, can I use the water and filter media in the qt again or do they all need to be replaced when doing my second round of quarintine for my other fish

I do a big water change (to lower nutrients).

I change floss/ filter sock. I leave the rock I use as media media for the nitrifying bacteria.

Basically I would be able to put in new fish the next day.

You CAN use the same water, but its better to completely empty the tank and refill. I usually do this when Im doing a water change on the main tank. Main tank water out goes to QT.

Oooh thats smart. Although can I keep the biomedia? Or is it not safe to use it again?

Got it. Sounds good.

It depends on what/how you treated previously. I usually just run a sponge in a HOB filter and i toss that too. Replace with a new one i had sitting in my sump

I see! Im using a biocubr aio so I might just make like 3 or 4 bags of seachem matrix and having sitting in dt sump then replace them whenever I finish cycling.

I remove all water and filters and sterilize it before using it again. Then I install new filters.
