I was noticing a cyclical drop in my orp, and the closest correlation that I can make is to sometime after the carbon reactor has finished it's 4hr cycle...

Each ORP drop is a different size and time of day. Not obvious that it is related to reactor use.

Agreed...If you kind of guesstimate an average time of the drop relative to the carbon pump, it seems to consistently fall about halfway between cycles, or every 11-13hrs. (The carbon is running 4hrs on 8hrs off osc)...just thinking out loud, and wondering about these sudden ORP drops

The drop is like you say, every 12hrs or so. You don't have anything that turns on or gets added or feedings that would sync there?

nope..feeding is done manually am/pm, UV and skimmer is on 24/7, DOS pump is set to spread the alk dosing over the whole day. The carbon is the only regularly periodic thing I've got on the system, and the carbon is maybe a week old at this point

I guess the next experiment is to change the carbon reactor cycle and see if it affects ORP so directly...

If you stop a GAC reactor (or any reactor) and trap water in it, ORP in that water will drop severely. When restarted, it dumps that bad water into the tank. I would not time a rector this way.

How would you time a carbon reactor? 24/7 and then remove from the system when not in use?
