Does spirulina powder cause oil on the water surface?
I sprinkled a pinch of spirulina powder to my 29g tank today. It was a bad idea. The powder was just floating on the surface and I tried my best to stir the surface so they sank. Now that I think about it I should have mixed it with water first then put it into my tank.
Anyhow, it looked like the water surface was clear enough so I left. After several hours I looked into the tank and it seems there's a thin oily surface on top of the water which I don't think was there last night.
Could the cause be the spirulia or something else?
It won't be too difficult to deal with the oily surface but just wanted to know if this is what I should expect every time I put in spirulia powder I'm the tank.
