I'm new to the hobby (July '18). This Chocolate Tang was in QT for 3 weeks, and has been in DT for about 10 days. First off, I am kicking myself for not keeping him in QT longer, but I was having a really hard time keeping the QT tank clean. No ammonia or nitrate issue, just cloudy and algae build up.

Anyway, I noticed yesterday that he seemed to have lost some color behind his gills. The more I look at it, the more it looks like powdery white. I'm hoping that I am overreacting. I ordered cupramine last night, and will treat all new fish with copper going forward. However, can someone weigh in on if my fish looks sick to you? The photos are from this morning off my phone. Sorry, my phone is kind of crappy. By the way, his appetite is super strong. The only other symptom is that it will occasionally scrape its side on the sand.

Sorry. Can’t tell from the pics.

I couldn’t stand it. Ran home to take more pics with full lights. The more I look at it , the more it looks like pigment. That would be normal for chocolate tang right?

I did, but I read a post from 4FordFamily last night about the polymer filters taking all the meds out of the water. I took out the carbon, but I'm wondering if I might should do it again. I just finished Prazipro in the DT before Tang went in, as precaution on another fish I put in DT early. It was getting picked on by the Tang. I wonder if just doing another round of Prazipro in DT would be ok?

I see a clown in one of the pics, how many fish do you have in the DT? Do you have any corals or inverts?

When you dosed prazi, did you do a second dose 5-7 days after the first? In both tanks?

Also, there is a such thing as prazi-resistant flukes [emoji849] so even if you did treat, that’s a possibility. The freshwater dip is the best way to know for sure...

Well. If I would have watched the dang video before posting, I would have my answer. So, FW dip tonight and Prazipro after that. Thanks for you help.

I used General Cure in the QT, as the Prazipro had not come in yet. Then did two rounds of Prazi in the DT, but the Tang did not come in until after the second round.

It is possible to have multiple parasites at the same time. Introducing a fish with parasites can spread to your other fish. It becomes a very sticky situation about possibly removing all the fish and treating in a QT tank while running fallow in DT. It is possible to treat in DT and there are great threads on here going into detail, but can't have any corals or inverts then have to take steps to remove medication after treatment.

General cure should have done the trick ... he had two rounds of that?

If the dip does show flukes... you could try the prazi again, two rounds. If that doesn’t alleviate the symptoms you might have a resistant strain :/ there are other treatments... hyposalinity being one. But then all fish would need to be treated in QT and display left fallow for 4-6 weeks.

Thanks. It's my understanding that Prazipro is ok in the DT. Do you agree? The corals did not seem bothered by the prazi when I did it the first time.
