Good evening,

My purple tang has been doing great have had him for about 2 months now. I have been battling flukes with him prazi didnt seem to kick it so I started hypo. We are about 2 weeks into hypo and I fear that he has edema. He has been eating Nori and LRS herbivore doing great but now...

He is kind of swimming all over the place in like a bounce around fashion

I dont believe there is a cure for this is there?

Please see picture attached to me looks like noticeable swelling

Cant catch a break here lately :(

Far from edema in which fish would be losing weight. This appears as bloating or bladder issue but a reason (not saying cause) that I rarely recommend hypo as some fish simply do not fare well with hypo.
If intestinal blockage or bloating, try feeding brine shrimp which acts as a laxative OR dont feed for 24 hours and see if this subsides.
A video under white light intensity may be of help with assessment and see how fish is breathing.

Do you think I should start to bring out of hypo? I just fed about 3 hours ago. so probably wont feed for 24 hours he was still trying to eat the nori on the clip but I took it out

Holding back food is a test to see if weight /bulge reduces but if there is stoppage/blockage, the brine shrimp will help it pass food through

Edema can happen to fish during hypo if they have an underlying kidney disease. With Edema, you'll see a generalized swelling of all of the fish's body. I don't see that here. There is a related condition called "ascites", that is a build up of fluid in the body cavity (not the tissue itself). That can be caused by kidney or liver failure. With that, the entire abdomen becomes swollen and very smoot looking. A fish that has been gorging on food and may be constipated has a fat, often lumpy abdomen - more like how your fish looks.

I agree though - we need to see the fish swimming in the tank to better access this.....

I just left him alone over night but I have been monitoring for past 15 minutes and swelling appears to have went down some. And swimming has corrected to normal. So it does seem like this was bloat. I have some brine I will feed at 5pm which will be 24 hours since last feed. so hopefully that will correct full circle.

With that being said do you think it was nori that caused this? This fish loves Nori and will take it over any other foods. I guess thats zebrasoma for you. I may slow down the amount of nori offered if thats the case.

Thanks for the help I am sorry for alarm bells I like to get second opinions.

Very good. Seems like you are now on track. Some foods to offer as it may have been eating fatty and dry foods are:
LRS herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
TDO Pellets
small plankton
Hikari Marine cuisine
Ocean nutrition veggie diet
spirulina brine shrimp
Prime reef
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract

Add selcon vitamins to foods occasionally
