Love it! It’s a reef aquarium as a piece of art.
It's a little of an exaggeration but "floating reefs" do exist in nature to some extent. Took this back in May.

That looks fantastic! Again, as has been said already, I think this will really only work on a nano.

I have done this. You bend acrylic at a right angle drill large holes in the bottom of the shelf (very useful for cable ties to fix rocks or corals and very good for flow and cleaning) and stick with silicone or reef safe pond seal the upright angle to the back wall. I agree with the point several people have made about the leverage the shelf has on the back wall. I don’t think I would have done it if my tank wasn’t an AIO. The back wall is plastic, slightly flexible and the partitions have had extra silicone in the corners. I was also able to drill through this back wall to bolt it to the back wall. I used plastic number plate bolts. Here are some photos of it (dry). Sorry about the quality, hopefully u can zoom in and get what I mean.

I think it looks really cool but I do feel like it's missing something, maybe a back drop or something. Just to ground it visually like a back drop showing its a ledge of a much bigger rock where the base is in the sand or something like that...

@vtecintegra Do you even dive, bruh? I've never seen clownfish swimming with a queen angel or a royal gramma in the ocean before, but portions of rocks/reef do suspend themselves over the sand.

The problem is that the look is not easily achieved especially on a larger scale. Well a true floating aquascape anyway. But what about for you? Let's talk about it today!
1. Do you like the look of a floating aquascape?
2. Would you ever consider setting up a new tank with a floating aquascape?

That would have been cool to do something like that but have a chain hooked to top going out of tank and making the aqua scape into an anchor shape... I know unrealistic but I thought cool idea.

Yes - I am not fond of this particular one. I think there should still be some anchor to the bottom Even if just a back corner - or at least a 'rocky background'. I do not particularly care for the floating in the middle of the glass.
I have kind of a version of one - where nearly the entire bottom of my tank is open - with only 2 corals - like tree trunks - support tables.

have dived - and I've never seen a reef growing from a piece of black glass. I think thats where some (myself included) - are saying it doesn't look real. There is no place I have been that has ever had a ball of coral floating in space - there is always an anchor - its on a rock, etc. Just my opinion

Not really directed at you exclusively, but I don't understand when people say it doesn't look natural.
The only thing that wouldn't really be natural is all the different species of coral in a small area. But that's every tank.
The lifted rocks is no different than a ledge. So in this case it's like a ledge hanging out. I imagine it as the edge of a reef ledge sticking into the aquarium.

love the look with the corals but I feel the fishes will have no place to hid.

With only a few coral changes, this looks like Switzerland's David Notter's tank featured in Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine Sept/Oct 2020 issue. He goes by Dave's Reef on Instagram. When viewed from side, it does look like drop off tank inside regular small tank. Article included 'how to' instructions.
