Hello,

I know box fish are prone to ich, however LFS thinks it's just normal pattern and they're pretty knowledgeable. It is extremely small like maybe the size of a quarter.

Just wanted a second opinion before I buy

Thank you

Does not look like ick to me at first glance, but the fish is so small, it’s hard to get size perception.

If those dot are raised, then maybe something attached, otherwise just patterns, there’s tons of dot patterns on box fish in many colours including white

The dots seem very white in the pics and the ick I see is white “ish” to light grey.

Depends on your assessment of the LFS knowledge.

Flukes you can’t see , which I rule out and being susceptible to ich could very well be. Pics are a bit fuzzy but this fish is delicate and needs to be treated with caution
Coppersafe at 2.0 with added aeration or general cure maintaining good water quality

Thank you for the recommendations. I use copper safe, do you have any opinions on how quickly to raise to the therapeutic 2.0? I've seen some day days, some will drop fish directly into 2.0 no issues.. I'm thinking 12 hours drip acclimating?

Maintain this level and do not ramp it up as it allows disease to gain resistance
Assure you’re using a good copper kit such as Hanna brand

I have Hanna for sure. My question is it's in 0 ppm water right now, do I ramp to 2.0 or drop it directly into 2.0 ppm copper safe

Get to level within 24 hours

I looked through a Google image search for boxfish and there are a few that have similar patterns and markings (the white bump/circle)

It was not many, but there are several.

The large white spots are normal and are not ich. I can see a bit of fin cloudiness, that could be ich, not clear enough of a picture to say for sure.

You should target 2.25 ppm, that's a full dose. I suggest people get there by two additions. You calculate what you think is a half dose for your tank volume, add that and let it circulate for a couple of hours then text again. Based on the reading, you adjust your dose to reach 2.25. You may need to set up a proportion equation to get the amount right.

full dose in ml / 2.25 = X/tested reading, then cross multiply and solve for X.

This helps a lot. Fish looks good overall and the couple dots on fins may viral rather than parasitical. See if the dots increase over the next 24 hrs or remain the same. If not, focus on Good water quality moving forward

Hi @Jay Hemdal @vetteguy53081 Jay, Vette, I kind of overshot copper power to 2.36 PPM instead of 2.25. only reason I'm asking is because I know box fish can be sensitivity to copper, is this ok? Or should I rush a water change to get it down? Any symptoms to look out for for sensitivity? Right now fish isn't showing any issues, is eating and swimming fine

Thank you

Should be fine. If you want to lower, you can scoop out 3-4 cups of tank water and replace with RO water but assure salinity does not suffer in the process.
