I am interested in buying this baby rbta and the seller says it is a few months old and about 1" big. It looks a little bleached to me, is this what they look like when they are so tiny. Could it be the lights or params in the sellers tank? He sent me a picture of the mother and another baby that split from it and they are thicker tenticles and way more color. I have been looking for one for awhile and I can't beat the price, but am I wasting my $

Personally I wouldn't do it. The anemone looks very bleached and in what appears to be a very poorly maintained tank.

Even a tiny RBTA will look healthy in a properly maintained system.

A "baby" RBTA is simply a section of the mother that separates, and therefore should have/keep the same coloring as the mother. I'd say this guy looks a bit ill...

Dont do it. A bleached bta is a stressed bta and a stressed bta will wonder or move around alot trying to find better conditions and that can lead to problems, plus its just not in good health and may wither away. It may creep behind rockwork getting less light and lose even more color till it just slowly melts away. Not a good idea.

thanks chalicekeeper but the shipping to mi on top of the price would probably be too much for my current budget.
I just was not sure if this was normal for a tiny split or easy to nurse back.

+1

It is bleached since it is on the sand bed in a corner of the tank. I'd see if he would move it to where it could get more light. That is why the foot is stretching so far.
If he can move it to more light, and feed it some silversides or krill for a couple weeks, it should be healthy enough for you to pick up.

Out here 3-4" RBTA's go for ~ $50. What are they out there?

they usually go for like $60, I was just trying to save a few bucks but I was not sure if I want to take the chance and try to nurse it back or if I would stress it out more. He is looking for a quick p/u so I don't think he will hold it for me.

my local reef club is Frag, in the flint area. I will be going to my first meeting on Sat. Maybe I could ask around and see if anyone has any for sale.

me and a friend have been cutting rbta just cut 3 today and even after the cut 20 min later they didnt look like that walk away from that one if you have some time and you can hold on we will have some on a post soon we have a real cool rainbow and rose but that rbta is sick
