So, I’ve hooked up the BRS CO2 scrubber for about a month now. Highest PH during the day is around 8.2 and at night it drops down to 8.0. I’ve noticed a lot of growth especially in my SPS. Obviously my ALK and Cal uptake has increased as well. I just want to see what your option is... does this seem right as far as the Alk and Cal uptake? I am using Red Sea Alk and Cal.

Target Param:
Alk: 8.9-9 dkh
Cal: 450 ppm

I am currently dosing 22.38 ml (2.23 ppm) of alk and 7.52 ml (15.04 ppm) of cal daily via automatic doser.

TIA

I don’t have the scientific explanation for this, but you posted in the right spot. However, I can tell you this. When I plumbed my skimmer outside, my pH shot up over a period of about 2 weeks. I too was dosing more cal than I was alk, about 2/1 ratio. I believe in part it had to do with much more coralline algae growing and uptaking the calcium. “Balanced” as you put it, would be equal parts of your two part being consumed at the same time. I have never had “equal” parts dosed at the same time. My tank is primarily SPS too.

I don’t believe the Red Sea Alk and Cal is truest a balanced 2-part. Alk dosing is 1ml = .1 ppm dkh and Cal dosing is 1ml= 2 ppm
