Does this sound like a good deal?

I found a 125 gallon reef aquarium for sale on craigslist, asking $1000. It is a complete setup, 125 tank fully stocked with live rock and a lot of corals, a few fish, and has sump and all lighting that is required. He is willing to trade me for my 130 gallon freshwater setup plus i give him 600 cash. Does this sound like a good idea?

I say keep your 130 and give him a grand for his. He probably has a lot more than that in it but this hobby sucks when it's time to sell anything (limited market and used aquarium things sell for pennies on the dollar imo). The main thing that would worry me would have to be the move, you could lose a lot of the live stock if not done correctly

That's if the equipment is good, there's really no description of what you're getting(type of lights, type of pumps,skimmer, softies, lps, sps, etc)

It depends. The price is not that good for a used system.

You might try to dicker him down, but he might not budge.

The thing is, is it a good deal for you?

He probably has far more in the system than his asking price.

But how much of the whole package would you buy? If the answer is 100 percent, than it is a very good deal assuming everything is in good shape.

But if you are buying quite a bit of stuff that you plan to replace, it might bre better to see if he will break up the package and let you buy only what you want.... At a reduced price.
