Was talking to a seller at a MASC reef show recently, admiring his torches and told him how I’ve had a couple in the past. They did great for months at a time but both ended up perishing in the end..BJD? I don’t know. Anyway, he told me he uses chemiclean once a month or so in his torch grow out tanks to keep them healthy. Anyone else heard of this?

Haven’t heard of that. I feel it’s completely unnecessary. I have grown out torches with no issues, from 1” nubs to 5 head with 8-10” tentacles. Never had to use chemi clean

If your torches are dying then there is a tank issue. I don’t do water changes, I don’t run a skimmer, and torches are among my fastest growers

These pics span about 9-10 months

Well, that’s great for you.

It can be used as a monthly maintenance dose, and is even written as such on the box. But usually not required. Maybe they are importing wild coral, and use it as part of their qt.

For years we as aquarists have grown torches without additives/anti-biotics and if it takes him chemiclean to raise torches- he needs to focus on water quality instead of an alternative to keep them alive

That is my point. It shouldn’t be needed. There is something going on with water quality, equipment, lighting, flow etc if torches are not lasting.

not necessary but can help with issues. Every time I use it I am impressed and it addresses more than cyano. They don’t advertise what it is (antibiotic erythromycin) they just tell you what it isn’t. I wouldn’t regularly dose an antibiotic.
