I have a hospital tank with UV and copper . The seachem Cupramine product says in the directions to turn off UV. Wondering why it says that and if it will destroy the copper or is there another reason. I prefer not to turn off the ultraviolet sterilizer but I will if necessary .

U/V will "break" the bond of chelated copper treatments turning it into a lethal concentration of ionic copper. While Cupramine isn't wholly chelated copper, only part, it still reduces effectiveness.

UV will not "remove" the copper but it will change its form/binding

Copper and UV should not be used together . One Or... the other . while some fish can tolerate the effects of this combo ( probably a healthy fish to begin with ) It will stress them to point of sickness . Then people scream MY FISH HAD ICH !!! common mistake people make nobody's fault but the info is out there
