I’m slowly loosing all my fish to velvet. It is very sad. I bought a fish that I was told he had been in quarantine but after a few days I lost him to Velvet and the others are slowly going too. So sad to watch.
Does Velvet also kills corals?
What can I do to eradicate velvet in the fish tank once all fish have died? My tank is about 10 years old but I never had this problem before. From now on I will set up a quarantine tank and make sure everything is treated just in case.
Wish I did that before.

No velvet doesn’t kill coral. You’ll want to do a 75 day period where you add nothing to the tank.

Thank you! I presume that I can continue to feeding corals?

How many hours does it take for Velvet to die outside water? I’m thinking about things such as: fish net, magnet cleaner and so on...
Thanks

Bringing this back up ; I'm dealing with Velvet now....

I set up a QT tank, and was doing a water change. To heat up the freezing water (i'm in Canada) quickly, I used my heater from DT and QT together to heat the water.
I then proceeded to do Water Change in QT.
Next day ; my Poweder Blue tang shows what I think is Ich - but ended up being velvet as he died within 2 days of displaying the parasites....

My Question: What are the odds that my heater from QT transmitted the Velvet (or Ich, but likely Velvet) to my 5 Gallon pale, and onto my DT heater, after which I then put my DT heater into my DT -- which means that my DT now has Velvet.

Note: My DT is basically done Cycling, and has no Fish or Corals. Only Rocks. My plan is in 4 weeks, introduce Fish that are coming out of QT after Copper Treatment. (Didnt have the materials to do Copper treatment before my PBT died..) . I have 4 fish still okay in QT ; hopefully the Copper works and the velvet doesnt get them.

But my worry is having contaminated my heater, and now my DT, and that I need to wait longer than 4 weeks.

Also - I've read that brigning the heat up to 85+ F helps kill the Velvet and Ich in Display tanks much quicker. Is this true? (If it is the case ; does it affect my Tank Cycling which just ended? I'd wait 1-2 weeks to add corals, if I bring the temperature up that high..) Another question: While my fish are in QT, can I add Corals in the meantime?,after I raise the temperature?
