Does your powerhead push your sand all over the place?

My powerhead (Maxi-Jet 1200) is pushing the sand in my 38G to different places. I originally put some of that real fine sand in there, but realized that was a mistake. So I got some thicker argonite, and put it in.....I have noticed that the powerhead is now pushing THAT sand where it wants because of the flow (I guess I have good flow). Just curious if this was normal? It's leaving the heavier stuff (shells) behind though, but I have some mean looking wavey sand!

WEll, ya don't want it all pushed into a pile in a corner. I take it your using it as circulation, instead of a powerhead? One pushes more water than the other.
I have 7800gph in an 8' 240g tank, my sand stays put. It has to do with placement also.

placement is a huge part of it. I am using a wp25 and a seio superflow 620 (around 1500gph) in a 30" 29. Without the seio for counter flow my tank would look like a snowglobe. Figuring out exactly where to point them will take a bunch of tinkering.

Also aquascape plays a major role.

It's not cloudy, its just pushing the heavier sand to a certain corner......it's quite interesting. I think I may need to try and raise the circulation, or maybe try something smaller? I didn't think this would be too much.

Try a smaller MJ on the other side of the tank, aimed at the flow of the mj1200. It should disturb the current some. Play with positioning til you get them balanced out. Plus it will randomize your flow a little bit, too....
