I love what urchins do as part of a CUC, but they always seem to dislodge corals or take them on as a new part of their anatomy. Comments?

Yes. And that's why he now resides in the refugium. He's also eaten a soft coral.

Can Confirm. Buddy of mine put some green macro algae in his tank, and his Tuxedo took ALL of it as camouflage.

He's babysitting my tiny Tuxedo while my tank goes through copper treatment, and it did the same thing with his red macro, until the hermits ate it right off it.

Urchins take my snails for a ride all the time. In the morning after lights come on I need to do coral counts to make sure everything is still where it's supposed to be. Between the snails and Urchins I'm fixing stuff every other day.

Urchins are as welcome in my tank as ich.

I take it back. Fish can become resistant to ich.

In ine day this week my urchin killed a 6" crowned coco worm and comoletely denuded a 4" crowned frather duster.

As soon as that ******* comes out from ubderneath the overhang, hes out

What kind of urchin do you guys have?

I have a pincushion in the sump. It dresses up in the macroalgae all the time.

I’m assuming that (IF) I put it in the tank everything will need glued down very well. But maybe I shouldn’t put it in the tank with corals.

These long spined ones for some reason don't move anything. I have this guy probably over 10 years and he never moves anything and he is about 8" wide. He gets in tiny places, I don't know how they do it.

I have had a long spined for about 10 years, and he has moved to my newest tank when it went thru the ugly algae cycle. It never consumed anything but it did dislodge a few. I have pincushions in 2 of my tanks, and a tuxedo in one. Those 3 pick up *#*% all the time. I’m thinking of placing them in my predator tank, but I think my puffer would take care of them quickly.

I added a tuxedo urchin and a halloween urchin to my frag tank to help with turf algae. They have done nothing to the algae, and they absolutely tear up the tank, ripping up glued down frags, dragging everything everywhere. The only reason they are still in there is that my kids like them.

mine was named " clepto" he went to the pokie!!!! he destroyed my tank , everyday I was putting things back together , 6 months of that and I called the cops! lol

My long spine urchin doesn't move anything, but has no sense of personal space and will park on top of zoa's, nems and anything else he wants for part of a day.

I also have a short spined pink urchin and it carries anything it can with him. Small frags go for a ride, mushrooms and even snails and crabs. I've rescued more than a few hermits with tongs from him after he parked on the glass dangling them in the water column for hours.
