Just curious to see how many peoples vets actually prescribe meds for their fish? I havent had any luck with vets in my area. I was wanting to get some chloroquine phosphate prescribed today without any luck. Lets see.

I haven't tried. Mainly because copper is so readily available. I do believe Ill be able to get some sick fish in to experiment on soon, so I"ll probably try to get some soon.

I really wanted to try the CP bc u only have to dose once but it seems to be a pain to get it.

It's a really good med that treats so many things. I want to try it as well. The pain part is getting the 99% pure stuff and not the junk from china

Im waiting on an exotics vet in dallas to give me a call back, may do a video conference so she can see the fish and give me a script. Fingers crossed

Wow, just looked at the prices on meds. Expensive but necessary

I haven't gotten mess, but I have gotten syringes for aptasia from mine. It was a long story trying to get them too.

Can cp be used instead of copper/cupramine? I'm lucky and was able to get Cp from a vet that actually came to my house to look at my tank. I haven't used it yet but if I can use it instead of cupramine I would rather. I already bought a scale to measure it out as well.

As humblefish said..
Print any relevant paperwork.
I did this when I went to the vet and bought 500 pills of interceptor back in the day for aquarium use.

Can cp be used instead of copper/cupramine?

Yes; IMHO CP is superior to copper for a few reasons:
  1. Copper only treats ich & velvet. CP treats those PLUS brook & uronema, making it a one stop treatment for all external parasites.
  2. With CP, you can go from zero to full therapeutic in one dose. With copper, it's best to slowly ramp the dosage up to therapeutic over a course of 4-5 days.
  3. Some fish suffer from side effects related to copper. Most common is appetite suppression. The only fish I have encountered so far that seem to have an adverse reaction to CP is Sixline Wrasses, Melanurus Wrasses and Hippo Tangs. I've treated many fairy/flasher wrasses without issue.
