Hi I just picked me up a dog face puffer they said at store they have been feeding mysis and krill to it but they also said they need hard food to eat to wear the beak down what should I feed him to do this like clams for grocery store or frozen shrimp still in the shell thanks

Do the little neck clams at grocery store.. The fish stores have the clams too frozen.... Jumbo mysis my puffers love as well...

Can I freeze clams then thaw when I wanna feed them 2 him and do u just throw the whole thing in there or do u have to open shell

He's a good size already prolly 5 or 6 inches and not sure it was just listed as dog face puffer ha lol didn't know there was more than one type

Ok still acclimating him litterly just got back from store so while I'm wating o thought I would start a post to make sure i get everything I'm gonna need

Clams are a good addition to the diet. However, if he doesn't get something hard in his diet, he will gnaw on the live rock to keep his beak in check.

Depends on the fish.

I will also agree that in the absence of harder foods, they will pick at rock for the beak.

Ok cause most of my fish are on the smaller side idk if they could eat the jumbo

The larger the food, the more interested the puffer will be.

Just wondering how long do they take to settle in got him to eat a little mysis but not a whole lot and won't eat the shrimp or clam I got him
