got a new dogfaced puffer for first time any care tips so he stays happy and healthy?

give him clams on the half shell also smearing mysis to rubble then freezing is another good way to get him to wear his teeth down. You may need to trim his teeth either way, so be prepared.

Buy frozen raw shrimp when its on sale. I usually get it for about 6$ a lb. Buy clams and freeze them for 48 hrs and then thaw out and toss in the tank. This will keep there teeth in check, they love biting the shell. Get some vitamins, Selcon. After you thaw the frozen shrimp out, remove the shell. I poke the shrimp and then put Selcon on it , let sit for 20 minutes, then cut up and give to the puffer. Use a stainless fork so when he bites, he doesn't destroy the feeding tool. GL

Puffers can sometimes come in with internal parasites, I usually just do 2 doses of prazi pro when I first get them just in case. You can wait and see, a dogface should be nice and round with no sunken parts of the belly at all. This is my 4th puffer and I've never had an issue with teeth. They nipple at food on rocks and sift through the substrate, that likely helps. Mine loves what they call "tiny shrimp" at the asian market(shells and all) and he gets clams on the half shell, this may help also.
