Doing Housekeeping And Found...

I stirred up the sand bed and ran it through the filter looking to preserve copepods. Got the pods... and lots of other weird stuff. The sandbed had been undesired for probably two years'ish so I expected some weirdness but this was nasty, but I dunno.

Oh.. Haha those arent maggots at all. Youre talking about the little things moving right? If so, those are just some sort of copepod/amphipod/pod. At least thats what they look like to me.

I didn't know copepods got that big.... not amphipods? I figured they weren't maggots cause I stopped putting flies in my tank long ago

Hahaha my fish absolutely love maggots, so i feed my sump a handful of raw meat and a few flies daily. But ya those are some sort of pod. Completely harmless i believe. If you dont look at your tank with a flash light during the night, you should. Youll see tons of these guys running around.

I think I'll not do that. Copepods or not... ewww. I've got an entirely new disrespect for my mandarin, seahorses, and their dietary choices. Eww.

Ya that first video grossed me out. Looked like rotting meat. If they are maggots, im just gonna go ahead and guess that something is seriously wrong with your tank, and you must be feeding some really good eats to your reef

Looks like a healthy population of amphipods to me. They will keep your fish happy.

Ya they can get really big. Ive seen pictures of some on a different forum that seriously look like something from outter space. Keep an eye on your zoas, if you have any... Ive heard stories of big pods that developed an appetite for zoas.

Nah the only thing in the tank are two Kellogi Seahorses. They'd been in a very old 30g tank, previously was a pod farm, previously a reef. I'm moving the seahorses to a biocube 29g for purely aesthetic reasons. I didn't wanna abandoned all my pods so I used to a gold coffee filter to sift them out to place back into the new seahorse tank. Them horses love their hunting!
I've sifted out maybe 1/20th of these "pods" at most... Check out the aquarium bottom!
