Hey guys! I was wondering... Has anyone tried doing Hyposalinity AND TTM together at the same time? My new blue tang has ich along 2 clownfish so I've kept them at a 1.009 salinity for about 3 days now and set up another tank with same salinity of 1.009 and transferred them in there. Do you know if this is too harsh on them?

They were eating fine and swimming around well but now that I transferred them to this new tank.. same water condition... However the blue tang has been breathing really rapidly. He's been in there for about 6 hours now and wasn't breathing fast when I first transferred them . Do you know what could be the issue? Do you think he's just stressed or scared? I know ich makes them breathe fast but he wasn't breathing fast before I transferred him. And the ichs have fallen off

It won't hurt them, but doesn't really do anything more for the Ich either. Either method (TTM preferred over Hypo) will rid the fish of the Ich problem. No harm at all to do this though, especially if you feel the lower salinity is better for the fish and it's breathing.

As for the "why", could be anything but is likely a combination of everything going on. Different salinity, new environment, parasites, etc. Just give them time to settle into the QT and hopefully you see improvements. Make sure they have hiding places. Keep us updated!

No harm. Hypo salinity does not cause any stress to the fish at all. It is actually is easier for the fishes system than being in a normal level of salt. It could have the benefit of helping with any flukes that the fish may have as well. Just make sure your refractometer is well calibrated
