I filled my new 75 last Friday and was prepared to wait 4-6 weeks for the cycle and all that good stuff. I used all dry rock with "live" bagged sand. After doing much reading and talking to people in my area I decided to use Fritz Zyme turbo start 900. I put the required amount in for my volume on Saturday. I put ammonia chloride to get the ammonia to 2 ppm. Tested today and my water looks pretty good. Ammonia-was just trace call it .25, nitrite-1, nitrate-2.5, phosphate-.25. Salinity is 1.025. Going to test in a couple days to see how it looks.

Bottled bacteria is another option when cycling a tank. Use what you're comfortable with.

I forget this forum is much more friendly than another one I go to. That one would have already had 4 replies saying that if I look to speed anything up or trying something that is not the "norm" I have no business trying this hobby. I may not be going to go as fast as they say you can with it but, I think it will be much faster than 4-6 weeks.

There is a lot to be said with patience in this hobby, but if you know what your doing then all the power to ya

There's a reason I stopped going to another board...I bet it's the same one. :)

I used BioSpira for my first reef and was very pleased with the results. Though, I also had some live rock in there.

Oh, I haven't heard of this product. I am interested in seeing how your tank cycles. I did use biospira when I moved my tanks. I believe it helped to prevent a mini cycle.

What Forum are you referring to?

My guess would be reef central, although nano reef can be pretty nasty too. I don't really favor RC anymore.

NR is not nasty and we certainly don't condemn different thinking over there, it's like a polar opposite of RC, RC has super-active mods and NR has less active moderation.. there are a handful of members that get a bit rowdy at times, but it's all in fun and you certainly won't get banned for disagreeing with a mod's opinion...

My apologies if I offended. I have read some threads that got pretty nasty that stick out in my mind, they seem to go far since there is not as strict modding (is that a word?) Some like that, others might not. Overall it is a nice site, probably the nicest format on my computer, and does have some great members, but my opinion is still that some threads can get nasty. But isn't that a great thing about having multiple forums? In terms of snotty people and attitudes RC is the worst IMO. But I am not looking to debate or argue. It's easy enough for people to form their own opinions just by browsing!

I have never been on nano reef, I'll have to check it out. There are good and bad on all of them. I get tons of info from RC but, it seems people are a bit more judgemental there.

The crucifixion would have been if you said you had added fish during cycling or added a tang to a 10g.

Oh no, I'm pretty new to all this but believe in researching things before putting an animal in possible harms way. A tang was on my original fish list until research told me my 75 isn't a good size for it. One of my lfs even told me I could get a small one and by the time it got to big I would probably upgrade or I could trade it in. Needless to say I don't use them for my fish advice. I don't agree with people stocking a tank planning for an upgrade because there are probably many times the upgrade never happens. I had a 29 biocube years ago and the lfs I got it from had me put damsels in to cycle and it was not good.

Hmmm. Sounds familiar. I starting coming here about the time the "other board" mods stepped in where they shouldn't and gave me "demerits" for comparing them to China or the old Soviet Union. I should have left when I first got there and everybody crucified me at first for not having a deep sand bed, then jumped on me the next year because I still had one...

More ways to skin a fish than one...

I cycled a 125 in 11 days, enough to add a dogface puffer on day 11, feed him well, and never saw ammonia after like day 8. Over 2 years later still have the dogface. Might be rehoming soon though, I'd like to try some corals in that tank someday. If you youtube "aquaripure 10 day cycle" that is how I did it.
