It may have been better for me to read your initial post before responding lol

Yea I agree, 99%is water the 1% is broken up between salt and trace elements. And that’s something we cant test for is the quality of water. And majority has great success without doing so.
I test my water constantly because of the amount of mix corals I have and some do well and others don’t on certain days. So as I’m dialing in on my tank chemistry, I guess it’s more of a safety net to have regular testing.

I can’t tell if my trace elements are working to be honest lol. I mainly use it when I don’t plan on doing water changes.
