I have a few dormant corals.
1. Sps I got 2 years ago lay dormant for 6 months, then started to grow and change colors for about a month. Then partial RTN. Now it has not changed in over a year.
2. Sps hasn’t grown since I got it about 18months
3. 3 polyp Zoa has not grown in 4 years!!
All other sps, and soft corals growing well with good color.
QUESTIONS??
1. What’s the longest you have had a coral lay dormant?
2. What are ways to kickstart dormant corals?

Zoas- I'd hit them with more flow if they arent growing.

SPS, depends on genus and species but for the most part if SPS in general goes through a period of shock or stress they will go into a low energy dormant mode as an evolutionary form of self preservation (I have no source for this, this is my theory/instinct).

If all params are good to go, What I like to do with dormant but stable colonies/frags is make a little nick or chip off them, usually that will spur new growth in my experience.

Thanks for the pennies :). Anyone else have long term dormant corals? What’s your longest?
