Does anyone else have a blue surgeonfish that will gulp air at the surface only to release bubbles as it dives back down?

I've noticed that my blue surgeon will do this almost every night after feeding time. I can't tell if she's trying to annoy the other fish or if this is some form of entertainment for her!

Curious if anyone else has observed similar behavior. ;Happy

Occasionally my Coral Beauty Dwarf Angel will do this, but it usually involves what it thinks is food floating on the surface and it will spit bubbles back out after it takes a bite. I have heard of some fish doing the air/bubble thing though and some Blue Tangs can do it.

Mine does this every night after feeding when my dusk transition lighting is on. She also splashes at the surface with her tail and sometimes drenches my lights. I think this is all a spawning behavior. I know mine is a she because she once released eggs. She’s very mature, I’ve had her almost 20 years. I never saw this behavior when she was small.

That is very close to the behavior I observe, including the splashing. I've had mine three years and she/he (I'm not really sure if the sex) is probably 6-7" long.

Wish someone could tell my foxface not to spaz out near the surface, he is getting more frequent with his attempts to hit me in the face with a saltwater splash.

My wantanabie angel does that regularly. Seems to be just something some fish like to do. I've researched it a fair amount and never seen it be correlated to any real issue. She's very fat and happy. Just likes to blow bubbles :)

so funny. you would say some fish are more "quirky" then others. neat..

My hippo does it after eating. I like to think she is happy she has a full belly.
