16 days into my cycle and after ammonia dropping from 8 to now finally 0, wondering if I should dose it back up to 2, or let it be. The nitrites are still 2-5 so it will be awhile until they drop. Thank you.

Let it go. It's almost done. No need to add ammonia now.

Nitrites have been showing since the 3rd or 4th day

You let your nitrites drop to zero before redosing ammonia. I like to cycle through until the ammonia and nitrites drop to zero overnight. So only dose your ammonia after your ammonia and nitrite has dropped to zero. This is from Dr Tim's method and has worked perfectly for me several times.

I used the Dr Tim’s method and it worked fine. If you add a heavy load of fish to your tank all at once, you will probably benefit from adding ammonia again to boost bacterial populations. If you add a light load, you are probably good to go once the nitrites clear out.

I'm going to be adding 1 fish that carries a heavy bio load, a coral catshark.
