The old wet/dry filters were nicknamed nitrate filters. If nitrates are too low, why not set up a small wet dry filter instead of dosing?

I'd think it's easier to control your nitrate levels via dosing. I'm able to keep them at a steady 5ppm this way while a wet dry or a canister filter might net you too much and be accompanied with the added maintenance of cleaning them.
