Hi folks,

Still in the researching phase here and am weighing my options on how to setup AWC on my reefer 350.

I plan on using my Trident & Dos to do my 2 part dosing so that part is figured out.

Now, the salt I use has alk at 7dkh but, let’s say, my goal alk is 8.45. How would I handle this difference if I implemented an AWC system? Would I dos up the new salt water as soon as it’s mixed; before re-enabling AWC? Or would I update my dosing amount to handle the difference?

none of this is setup yet; just doing some research at this stage. Thanks!

What I personally would do is switch to a salt that has closer ALK numbers to what is already in your tank.....that way you only have to rely on your DOS to keep your numbers stable. I keep my ALK at 8.4 and my salt mixes up to 8.4. My AWCs don't affect anything....my DOS doses ALK/CA as demand requires. To answer your question though lol.....I would dose your tank, not the water. Depending on how much water you are changing per day, the difference in ALK probably won't change the ALK in the tank that much, unless you have a very small tank.

Since dosing is ultimately determined by trial and error, the fact that the dose needed is very, very slightly different due to the water change is unimportant.

Example: suppose you change 1% daily. With a 1.45 dKH difference between the new water and the old, that just means that each day you need to use 0.0145 dKH less then the daily tank demand. Very tiny and easily done. Frankly, just ignore it.
