I’ve got a vial that has a bacterial dose that is twice as much as what is called for my size of tank. Question is: is it possible to overdose bacteria in a tank? I’m assuming no, as bacteria don't directly affect the health of the fish negatively. Just erring on the side of caution for my corals and inverts.

I have dosed up to 1.5 times the amount for a tank. Haven't had a issue. But I'm sure there is a limit. If there isn't enough "food" for all the bacteria then you'll have bacteria die off. Can you just divide the dose to the correct amount?

It’s the type that’s in a glass vial, where you break the tip off. It’s a small amount of liquid inside so it’d be hard to save, would probably die and get stinky. I’ll just throw the whole thing in. Like you said, if not enough food, they’ll just die off. But I’m sure they’ll find a home in the filter media. Thanks.

Which Prodibio is it? It should say something like “ for tanks 0-15 gal dose one vial , for 16-30 gal dose two vials”

I have never seen an effect from over dosing bacteria except on my wallet tbh.
Anything that is specifically for “tank cleaning” like waste away or vibrant i would imagine if your tank is dirty enough would lead to an issue if dosed enough to breakdown more than your tanks biological filter can handle at once. Those i would be careful with

You can’t overdose bacteria I always use double what my tanks call for
Actually after I did this, I lost all of my fish. White eyes, struggling to breathe. All the signs of a bacterial infection. After reading about this type of bacteria, I learned that it’s not safe for fish. Lesson learned. I’ll stick to my regular brand from now on.
