Dosing Bacteria to an (young) established tank?

So dinoflagellates knocked me out of reefing several years ago. I am convinced it was because I got my system super clean. I had a 75 gallon tank with just a few fish as well as a fuge with chaeto. I was running a GFO reactor too. I hadn't added anything new to the system for a long time, then one day I noticed some brown snot and the rest is history...

I'm getting back into reefing and want to avoid the dreaded dino's at all costs. I'm not going to start a fuge or run GFO until I need it, instead of shooting for O nitrates and O phosphates.

I was curious if people dose bacteria to an existing tank as a regular practice. Things like Bio-Spira, etc.

I thought it might be good to do that so that good bacteria can outcompete the bad, especially in a young tank

If your going to have a coral tank, you will need some nutrients. 5-10ppm N03 and 0.02 P04 is advisable.

Once a tank is cycled, there is no need to add bacteria.
