Dosing BRS 2-part

I would get the brs 2 part and follow their instructions. They are pretty good at that! This will get you started on the right path while you do more research and get comfortable with dosing a 2 part (3 part) system. @Randy Holmes-Farley did the work to create the BRS recipe a long time ago. There are other variations of this recipe. Even those that include the magnesium part. His articles and loads of information posted by him here are great to read and will give you all the knowledge you could possibly need to implement and tweak whichever recipe you wish to use. Starting out with BRS makes it easy to understand and fairly safe to dose.

I typically don't do a water changes anymore so I need to dose 2 part , mag, and add in trace and minor elements to keep coloration and growth up. I do mag manually once a week. Determine how much was used over the course of a month. Then use the calculators on BRS to determine how much is needed to get back to desired level and divide it by 4. I've noticed that keeping my mag elevated and consistent has helped maintain my 2 part dose consistent therefore less tweaking.

curious how you decided that you need to start dosing? I have a newish tank (6mo old) with SPS and LPS frags and i've noticed that my alk and cal levels are pretty good with water changes. I've thought about dosing but my coral isn't there yet.

What are your levels?

I'm guessing the salt you use has high levels ;)

I'm not home so dont have the latest readings but always have been within the desired rage for a reef tank. When and how did you decide to dose?

I don’t have and stony corals yet, just trying to get my ducks in a row before I do. I am waiting to receive the Reefer 250 that I won on here to set up a SPS heavy tank. Just acquired a dimmable ATI sunpower 6 bulb so I’m stoked
