I have a ton of KH2PO4 and KNO3 since I have a large Planted aquarium. My reef tank is 75.5 US Gallons and I have been testing really low on nitrates and phosphates so I was going to look into dosing those to keep my tank happy.

I am using http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/calculator.htm for the calculator

For Phosphates I have 4.00grams KH2PO4 / 1000ml a 10ml dose is 0.1ppm of Phosphates

For Nitrates I have 46.50grams KNO3 / 1000ml a 10ml dose is 1.0 ppm of nitrates.

Does this seem reasonable? I am trying to have some stickers made up with the instructions so I dont forget.

@Randy Holmes-Farley I think I saw some previous posts where you put a factor for the dose so wanted to make sure these were accurate.

Any concerns with dosing Potassium? Also how quickly can you raise Phosphates and Nitrates?

Thanks,

I’m not a fan of potassium nitrate unless you are monitoring the potassium. If you aren’t, sodium or calcium nitrate is a better bet.

So if I purchase Sodium Nitrate that would be correct?

I saw a previous post where you said multiply by 0.84 to get what you need using the potassium.

Doing this i get 39.06g /liter

Is that correct?

Is the phosphate calc correct or does that need a readjusting factor?

Thanks,

Yes, be sure to buy food grade sodium nitrate. That calculator is a good one to use.

this one good?

TY
any idea what the difference between food and industrial/scientific grade is?

Food grade has specific legal purity and testing requirements. Certainly some other grades do too (USP, WCC, ACS reagent, etc) , but words like lab grade are meaningless.

A simple percent purity claim is not useful for our needs.
