Im pretty sure I know the answer but what will happen if I were to dose my heavily stocked 350 gallon skimmerless tank? ive been experimenting with a new filter and dosing vsv and wanna know what I should see if it isn't working. I guess outcome be simular to dosing to much with a small skimmer eh...shouldn't I see the white mulm growing on stuff. Dosing 80 ml a day right now.
Here's a vid of my system to see what I mean when I say heavily stocked

Here's a question. For a heavily stocked tank like mine..water volume around 700 gsllons. How much nopox a day would be concidered a high dose? I've seen what high doses of nopox does to tanks because of my lfs. Grouse! White mulm everywhere. I may buy a bottle today just to try is why I'm asking.

A little background Randy. This tank has even skimmerless for over a year now using the filter I made. It's a sand filter

I was involved in a wholesale coral outlet that employed one, if I remember correctly they have to be pretty big to be efficient..
Correct me if I am wrong please.

High dose will vary with the tank since it depends on feeding and exports.

IME, a "too high" dose of vinegar is about 1-2 ml per gallon. 0.5 ml per gallon worked fine for me and I'd consider it on the high end.

Translating to NOPOX, that 0.5 mL vinegar per gallon is roughly equivalent to 0.2 mL per gallon NOPOX.

I think I'm just going to stick to vsv. Nopox ain't cheap. Besides I've got 4 litres of vsv mixed up.

i read about that-experiment. So what were the conditions like in the tank? Did you get that snot on everything?

With 2 ml of vodka in my 40 gallons per day approximately, ive experienced non stop foggyness, and massive amounts of "snot" bacterial growth. Im going to stop soon i dont like the results. Back to my ats.

That's impressive your tank just uses a sand filter. Hows it work?

Wow. Just that little bit of vodka. I guess I'm dosing 75 ml a day of a 3;1 Viniger vodka mix. So far no clowdness at all. The only difference I see is my sand filter backs up every day instead of once a week. No mulm whatsoever either. I also have a sump full of cheato. Sand filter works basically the same as a pool sand filter only I can drain all the saltwater out of it and backflush with freshwater. It's pretty slick. I made it mainly to eliminate filter socks but I'm learning it does way more.

Nice! Ive got a swirl filter, it makes the particles settle in the middle then i just open the drain valve. But im getting tired of doing it. Maybee ill try a sand filter. Probably yours is removing all the bacteria before it can fog up. I dont use a sock but put one on yesterday and its plugged already.
